Cupcake Batter Scoops

| | ,

I admit I am old fashioned and like doing things the way mom always did, even if it is messy.  Isn’t part of the fun of baking making a mess?  Like licking the bowl or licking the beaters.  But I digress.

I was wandering around in Joann’s Craft Store this morning, not really looking for anything in particular when I found myself in the bakery and cupcake aisle where there are all kinds of neat gadgets and decorating tools to ooh and ahh over.  Of course.  Most are fun to look at, but I just can’t bring myself to use a gadget to do what can be done the old fashioned way.

But then I came across these Cupcake Batter Scoops made by Wilton.  Now this was a USEFUL gadget I just had to buy!

I always seem to struggle with filling the cupcake tins to the right level and to make them all even.  The batter spills on the tin, or I overfill some of the cups.  These handy scoops fill the tin to the right level (2/3 full) each and every time.  There are three sizes – mini, regular and jumbo.

As luck would have it, I was planning to make a couple of batches of cupcakes this weekend and gave the mini scoop a tryout today.  It worked perfectly though it did take a couple of tries to get used to it.  The batter I made was a bit thick so the scoop worked best when used like an ice cream scoop against the edge of the bowl.  The scoops have soft edges to scrape the bowl to get every last bit of batter.

A great find!
